Coming into the new year it’s possible to get caught up in the wave of (NEW YEAR RESOLUTIONS)
A brand new start
A clean Slate
A Blank Canvas.
At times this New Year resolution wave is merely an over-publicized pep rally talk. An inflated or exaggerated pitch.
Just Enough to get a person to begin something new but not enough to see it through to completion.
But if we take this idea of New Year in the framework of reality, we can then leverage this perspective to become our aid and our advantage!
Take for instance the concept of “today”. The very concept of “today” bears weight because “today” exists in relation to “yesterday”.
but not only that, “today” also exist in relation to “tomorrow”
There is a bible passage that embodies this concept well. And I believe that all of scripture is God Breathed and relative to our present living. 2 Timothy 3:16
In LUKE 16:1-8 The steward must make a RIGHT NOW decision in light of a shaky past in order to secure a better tomorrow.
It’s obvious that he cannot undo his past, yet he leverages the reality of his past, rather it be evidence of his own incompetence or his own laziness.
He takes a true inventory of where he is at and in light of that truth…HE ACTS.
And he acts in a way that is contrary to his past, with acts of vigor, urgency, wisdom and tact in order to secure a future, a positive end result.
We too, man, woman, opening game person, middle game person and endgame person.
Opening game: those at the part of life where you are just getting moving, just trying to establish yourself in the world- trying to get your footing in your context.
Middle game: Where you are caught up in the hustle of RISK, REWARD, LOSS AND GAIN. The shuffle of conquest and compromise. Where you begin to see the level of opposition you are actually up against.
End Game: When every resource has greater value ( due to supply and scarcity) rather it’s time, energy or finances and every move leads to massive gains or exposes you to critical losses.
This is where we all find ourselves, in a New Year because there is an Old Year.
Actions that we executed that did or did not pan out so good. Behaviors that we embraced that resulted in conflict or concluded with forging new relationships or tempering existing ones.
It would be a disservice to any person to embark into the New Year or a New Day propelled by FORGETFULNESS. Forgetting Last year or forgetting yesterday.
Even in our walk of faith with Jesus, the Apostle Paul after informing the believers of their present riches in CHRIST, their amazing stance as a Child of God by way of Grace, atoned for by means of the sacrifice of Jesus, current possessors of a guarantee to an inheritance by way of the HOLY SPIRIT…. In chapter 2 of Ephesians, Paul puts this present state in context of a much LARGER reality. Making the current state sweeter than the honey and the honeycomb, more valuable than gold, rubies or beryl.
He brings New Year in light of the Old Year, the NEW DAY in light of the Old Day, The New Walk in light of the Old Walk.

“WE SHOULD WALK IN THEM”
Walking is a progressive action. An action that STARTS somewhere and an action will eventually END somewhere.
It is quite IMPOSSIBLE to unstep steps, But we can as the Psalmist said “Turn our feet” CHANGE COURSE, PIVOT. Psalm 119:59
Although we can not unstep a step we can Take the Fork in the Road or turn around to a lighted path and have God Himself “Direct our Steps” Psalms 119:133
